Kristin Chenoweth & Corbin Bleu Headline Broadway Week Part Two on Dancing With the Stars
Broadway Week on Dancing With the Stars continued on the October 25 episode, in which Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth showed off her country roots by singing her newest single “Lessons Learned.” Also on the program, Broadway vet and High School Musical star Corbin Bleu demonstrated his range in a medley of “42nd Street,” “Cool” (from West Side Story) and the finale from “In the Heights.” (As you watch the clip below, keep an eye out for composer Lin-Manuel Miranda’s delighted response at the end of the number.) At the end of the show, Chaz Bono, who channeled the Phantom of the Opera in a tango on the October 24 episode, was eliminated from the competition.
Go Inside Stick Fly with Alicia Keys, Tracie Thoms & More in a Video Preview
In anticipation of the arrival of Lydia R. Diamond’s Stick Fly on Broadway, the show’s all-star cast and creative team stepped out to the Hard Rock Café on October 20 to share their excitement. Leading the way was Grammy winner Alicia Keys, making her first foray into Broadway as producer and composer for the play, which centers on the LeVays, an affluent African American family who come together to spend a weekend at their Martha's Vineyard mansion. The singer/songwriter was joined by director Kenny Leon, playwright Diamond and cast members Dulé Hill, Mekhi Phifer, Tracie Thoms and more to talk about this exploration of a segment of the population rarely seen on stage and screen, and its impact on the politics of class, race and identity.
Burning, Starring Hunter Foster, Heats Up as Off-Broadway Previews Begin
The New Group's production of Thomas Bradshaw's Burning, starring Tony nominee Hunter Foster, begins previews at the Acorn Theatre on Theatre Row on October 26. New Group artistic director Scott Elliott helms the play, which will open on November 14 and run through December 17.
Joining Foster on stage will be Jeff Biehl, Reyna DeCourcy, Barrett Doss, Andrew Garman, Drew Hildebrand, Evan Johnson, Danny Mastrogiorgio, Andrew Polk, Larisa Polonsky, Adam Trese, Vladimir Versailles and Stephen Tyrone Williams.
The intersecting stories of Burning span two eras. A contemporary black painter, who depicts shocking racial violence in his art but hides his race from the press, goes to Berlin for a gallery show only to find that his work has been misinterpreted. In the mid-'80s an ambitious teenage boy, recently orphaned, comes to New York to become an actor and is taken in by a gay couple as they are preparing the debut of a new Broadway play. Using tales of self-invention and sexual identity, Burning attacks the pretenses of the worlds of art and theater.

Playwright David Ives on How Venus Got Her Fur
About the author:
Behind David Ives’ mild-mannered exterior is a dramatist who loves to take on seemingly impossible challenges. Since penning the 1993 smash-hit collection of one-act comedies All in the Timing, Ives has tackled history (the acclaimed drama New Jerusalem), channeled Mark Twain (the hilarious Broadway romp Is He Dead?) and given fresh life to Moliere (The School for Lies), with a stage adaptation of White Christmas thrown in. Now one of Ives’ most unusual plays, Venus in Fur, is headed to Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, in a production starring Nina Arianda and Hugh Dancy. Below, Ives explains how he took an 1870 novel that spawned the term “sado-masochism” and turned it into a sexy comedy set to open on Broadway on November 8.
My play Venus in Fur began with a very powerful, very bad idea.
A few years ago I re-read Histoire d’O, the notorious erotic French novel of the 1950s. Story of O (as it’s known in English) is the tale of a woman identified only as “O” who from the very first page accedes to her lover’s demands for various kinds of sexual submission. O masochistically submits for ...

Joss Whedon Films Secret Much Ado About Nothing, Starring Nathan Fillion, Clark Gregg and More
Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon is at work on a screen adaptation of Shakespeare's romantic comedy Much Ado About Nothing, according to Deadline.com. Whedon took to his Twitter account to announce he recently wrapped the low-budget film's secretive two-week shoot in Santa Monica.
The movie is a contemporary version of the Shakespeare classic, which tells the story a young couple scheming to set up their perpetually single friends, and was filmed in black and white. The cast features Amy Acker as Beatrice, Alexis Denisof as Benedick, Nathan Fillion as Dogberry, Clark Gregg as Leonato, Fran Kranz as Claudio and Reed Diamond as Don Pedro.
“The text is to me a deconstruction of the idea of love, which is ironic, since the entire production is a love letter, to the text, to the cast, even to the house it’s shot in,” Whedon said of the project. "[The cast was] all dedicated to the idea that this story bears retelling, that this dialogue is as fresh and intoxicating as any being written, and that the joy of working on a passion project surrounded by dear friends, admired colleagues and an atmosphere of unabashed rapture far outweighs ...
Julian Elia Will Make His Broadway Debut as Title Star of Billy Elliot
Broadway's Tony-winning musical Billy Elliot is welcoming a new actor to the title role, 13-year-old Julian Elia. Elia will alternate with current cast members Tade Biesinger, Joseph Harrington, Peter Mazurowski and Myles Erlick. Current star Giuseppe Bausilio will play his final performance as Billy on November 6. Elia’s first performance date has yet to be announced.
Elia, a veteran of the Toronto production of Billy Elliot, has trained since the age of six and dances competitively in Jazz, Tap, Acro, Hip Hop and Contemporary. When not dancing, he and his sister Rosie are co-hosts of the Gemini Award-nominated television series Are We There Yet? World Adventures. Most recently he appeared in a recurring role on the upcoming Canadian television series The Yard.
Elia joins a cast that includes Emily Skinner as Mrs. Wilkinson, Daniel Jenkins as Dad, Katherine McGrath as Grandma, Patrick Mulvey as Tony, as well as Jack Broderick and Cameron Clifford alternating the role of Michael.
Billy Elliot is the funny, heartwarming tale of a young boy with a dream, and a celebration of his triumph against the odds. Set against the historic British miners’ strike of the 1980s, the story follows Billy’s journey as ...

What was your favorite Halloween costume of all time, and how old were you when you wore it?
I went as a "GORGYLE!" last year [pictured above] based on Marguerite Perrin's rant from the TV Show Trading Spouses. She screams "GORGYLES! SLYKICS!!!" a.k.a. gargoyles and psychics.
