Production photos often whet our appetite to see a show—and that’s certainly the case with T. Charles Erickson’s gallery of scenes from John Guare’s eagerly awaited epic A Free Man of Color. Title character Jacques Cornet, played by Tony and Emmy winner Jeffrey Wright, rules the roost in New Orleans in 1801, an era in which even the offspring of a slave and landowner could become a wealthy aristocrat himself. With a storyline that mixes historical characters including Thomas Jefferson and Napoleon with the colorful folks of the Big Easy, Free Man opens on November 18 at the Lincoln Center Theater’s Vivian Beaumont Theatre.
