Skokie bus driver avoids jail for child endangerment

A Skokie man who was semi-conscious behind the wheel of a school bus last year as it roared down the Edens Expressway with 41 children on board was sentenced to one year of probation and 100 hours of community service today.

Brian Skoglund, 40, of the 5000 block of Farwell Avenue, did not say anything before Cook County Circuit Court Judge Larry Axelrood handed down the sentence at the branch court in Skokie.

Skoglund was initially charged with aggravated DUI and child endangerment in September 2009 after a motorist on the Edens called 911 to report that a school bus was driving erratically.
