As the title character in By the Way, Meet Vera Stark, Sanaa Lathan leads a cast of theater A-listers on a 70-year journey behind the Hollywood scenes, by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Lynn Nottage. Stark, a headstrong African-American maid and budding actress in Hollywood’s Golden Age, has a tangled relationship with her boss, a white Hollywood star desperately grasping to hold on to her career (Stephanie J. Block). When both women land roles in the same Southern epic, the behind-the-cameras story leaves Vera with a surprising and controversial legacy. Lathan and Block are joined onstage by Tony winner Karen Olivo, Tony nominees Daniel Breaker and David Garrison, Kevin Isola and Kimberly Hebert Gregory.
