What's New: Leopold

A Belgish bistro comes to West Town.

by Mike Sula

After Andersonville's Dutch-inspired Vincent, West Town's Leopold is the second restaurant to open in the last half year representing a semiobscure northern European cuisine. If only someone would open a Luxembourgian bistro Chicago could theoretically claim to have a complete selection of Low Country food.…

Yesterday afternoon, the Chicago Plan Commission approved an overpass for the Lakefront Trail that should ease congestion near Navy Pier. Just south of the pier, the path is currently routed along a sidewalk next to the busy lower level of the Lake Shore Drive bridge over the Chicago River, and is a nightmare to bike on because it's usually jammed with pedestrians, cyclists, and in-line skaters.…

Morsels: A Haunt Fit for Hemingway

Hubbard Inn opens in River North. Plus: Mac n cheese hits the road aboard the Southerns new food truck.

by Kate Schmidt

Hubbard Inn (110 W. Hubbard, 312-222-1331, hubbardinn.com), a "Continental tavern" from the team behind English, opened in River North last week in a bi-level space decked out in trappings inspired by Ernest Hemingway's sojourns in Europe. Singing Sailors and Sutton Foster! Sneak a Peek at Anything Goes

Tony winner Sutton Foster, who is taking on the iconic role of Reno Sweeney in the upcoming revival of Anything Goes, and her talented co-stars took to the stage of their rehearsal space at Broadway’s Studio 54 on February 17 to show off their work-in-progress to the press. Helmed by director/choreographer Kathleen Marshall, this classic Cole Porter show takes place on the S.S. American ocean liner, where two unlikely pairs set a course for true love with a little help from a tap-dancing crew, exotic disguises and good old-fashioned blackmail. The cast performed some of the show's signature numbers, from “You’re the Top,” to the high-energy title tune. The cast will soon be shipping out for the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, where Anything Goes begins performances on March 10. Click through for a sneak peek at this highly anticipated revival.
