DEMOTTE, Ind. -- Police say two people from suburban Chicago were killed when their car went through the median of Interstate 65 and was struck by a semitrailer in northwestern Indiana.
The crash happened about 5:30 a.m. Friday a few miles south of the Indiana 10 interchange near the town of Demotte. Police say the car was heading southbound when for unknown reasons it left the roadway and crossed the grassy median into the northbound semi's path.
State police Sgt. Ann Wojas says lanes in both directions were closed for more than two hours.
Police say 68-year-old driver John Miroballi and 46-year-old passenger Jeannie Miroballi were pronounced dead at the scene. Both are from Wood Dale, Ill. The semi driver wasn't injured.
