Al Burian on why it's easier to have agoraphobia here than it is in his current place of residence:
In Chicago, at least, when you tell people that you are pathologically afraid to leave the house, you get well-reasoned, philosophical responses: “well, a six-pack of old style is cheaper from the store anyway. Should I bring a couple over?”
