Chicago is due for some ugly weather today, tonight, and tomorrow, with rain, snow, high winds, and cold all coming together.
The rain is going to hit first sometime this morning, and that will stay with us through the evening, with the possibility of a small lull that includes some freezing drizzle this evening, according to the National Weather Service, which has a winter storm watch in effect from Saturday night through Monday morning.
The snow, about 3-5 inches for the bulk of the area but more near the lake, will continue through the morning, with winds getting as high as 45 miles per hour Sunday morning, causing some drifts and low visibilities.
The combination of high winds and cold temperatures is going to result in wind chill readings that could reach as much as 30 below in some places by Monday morning. Bring your warmest clothes if you plan to be outside for Sunday afternoon's Bears-Patriots game at 3:15 p.m.
Low temperatures will stick around for Tuesday, get slightly better Wednesday, and then warm up to around 30 Thursday, when light snow is in the forecast.
WGN-TV meteorologist Tom Skilling says it'll be the biggest storm so far this winter.
The storm that is heading this way started in the Rocky Mountains Friday and has created blizzard conditions in South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota. In Minnesota the conditions are expected to be bad enough that plows will be pulled off the roads and some roads may be closed.
But the National Weather Service is not expecting snow that heavy in most of this area.
