Mom, 16-year-old son both held in armed robbery case

In keeping with the season of family togetherness, Traci Drake and her 16-year-old son were both sent to jail today in connection with crimes related to an armed robbery.

Cook County prosecutors said William Drake, who lives with his mother in the 10800 block of South Wallace Street, approached two UPS delivery men dropping off packages in the 10800 block of South Halsted Street. The teenager allegedly pointed a gun at each of the victims with an order to "Give me all you got."

The victims -- a 26-year-old man from Alsip and a 34-year-old man from Chicago -- turned over two wallets and a cell phone, according to court documents.

About 4 p.m. Thursday, the mother and son were arrested together when Traci Drake attempted to use one victim's Visa credit card to buy two pairs of shoes, totaling $227.66, at a Far South Side shoe store, the records said.

Because William Drake is a juvenile, he needed a parent present when his bail was set at $250,000 for two adult counts of armed robbery and a separate drug possession charge.

Conveniently, Traci Drake was already in the building -- a judge had just set her bail at $10,000 minutes earlier.
