Bebe Neuwirth Returns to Chicago as the Musical Becomes Broadway's Longest Running American Hit

As the Tony-winning revival of Chicago readies for its incredible 6,138th performance, the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical has two special milestones to celebrate. Not only will it become the fourth-longest running show in Broadway history (surpassing the original mounting of A Chorus Line), but the show will also have the distinction of becoming Broadway's longest running American musical (British imports The Phantom of the Opera, Cats and Les Miserables currently lead the pack of long-running tuners.) On August 26, show stars Nikka Graff Lanzarone, Charlotte d'Amboise and Christopher Sieber gathered backstage at the Ambassador Theatre with special guest Bebe Neuwirth (who scored a Tony for playing Velma Kelly when the revival began its run in 1996) to celebrate the milestone. Take a look at the historic evening below!

This week on the B Side

Three things I learned from Justin Kendall's profile of U.S. air-guitar champion Justin "Nordic Thunder" Howard in this week's Reader:

1. Competitive air guitar is far more serious than I ever imagined: now that he's solved some passport-related issues, Howard is going to the 16th annual Air Guitar World Championships in Finland.?

Anderson Cooper Touts Daniel Radcliffe in How to Succeed and Sleep No More on EW's 'Must List'

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper is readying to launch his own daytime chat show Anderson on September 12, and like any good TV host Cooper has quite an affinity for pop culture. EW.com recently chatted with the silver-haired newsman and asked him to make a "must list" of his current entertainment obsessions. Among his selections? Broadway hit How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and off-Broadway's Sleep No More.

"Yes, it’s my Broadway debut," Anderson said of How to Succeed, for which he recorded a narrative track earlier this year. "I do a voiceover in the production with Daniel Radcliffe, but it’s a really fun show, and a great night on Broadway."

Meanwhile crowds at Sleep No More who experienced the theatrical event on the same night as Cooper probably weren't even aware of his presence. Audience members are required to wear Venetian masks throughout the show. "It’s an interactive play that is unlike anything I’ve ever seen," Cooper said of the work. "It’s like being in a David Lynch movie set in a 1940’s hotel. The audience moves around freely, in silence, wearing masks. I try to describe it, and ...

Wallace Smith, Lindsay Mendez and Celisse Henderson Join Broadway's Godspell Cast

Wallace Smith, Lindsay Mendez and Celisse Henderson have joined previously announced star Hunter Parrish in the cast of the upcoming revival of Godspell. Performances begin October 13 with opening night set for November 7 at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Daniel Goldstein directs.

Smith, who will take on the role of Judas, has appeared on Broadway in American Idiot, Ragtime, The Lion King and Hair. He has also toured with Miss Saigon. Mendez's Broadway credits include Everyday Rapture and Grease. She has appeared off-Broadway in The Marvelous Wonderettes. Godspell marks the Broadway debut for Henderson, who has toured with Wicked and appeared in the Carnegie Hall presentation of Jerry Springer: The Opera.

The cast also features Telly Leung, Uzo Aduba, Nick Blaemire and Morgan James.

The revival marks the first Broadway production of Godspell since its original run transferred from off-Broadway to Broadway over 30 years ago, closing at the Ambassador Theatre on September 4, 1977 after 527 performances. A 1973 feature film version starred Victor Garber as Jesus. The show's signature song "Day By Day" reached #13 on the Billboard Top 100 list.
