3-year sentence for blinding man in Sox-Cubs fight

A McHenry County judge has handed down a three-year prison sentence to a Chicago Cubs fan who cost his former brother-in-law an eye when he kicked him in the face during a quarrel over baseball teams.

Circuit Court Judge Sharon Prather imposed the sentence Tuesday on 39-year-old Boguslaw Czapla of Elmwood Park.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that 34-year-old Robert Steele lost his right eye when he was beaten by Czapla and two other men during a 2-year-old girl's birthday party on July 19, 2008 in the northwestern suburb of Huntley.

Czapla's brother, Jerry, was sentenced last year to six months in jail and placed on two years probation after pleading guilty to felony mob action. A third man charged in the attack remains a fugitive.
