Preckwinkle hires new employment chief

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle has changed the leadership of a jobs-training agency beset by scandal during previous administrations.

Karin Norington-Reaves, a former deputy director in the state Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, replaces former state Rep. Art Turner as head of the President's Office of Employment and Training, Preckwinkle confirmed today.

Former Board President Todd Stroger appointed Turner last June to clean up the agency, which was plagued by allegations of misused funds. But the state was not satisfied, Preckwinkle said.

"It was clear they expected significant change, and we are going to try to provide it," she said.
