Carol Felsenthal's 2005 profile of new White House chief-of-staff Bill Daley is highly recommended; it paints a plausible picture of what Barack Obama sees in him for the position.
It also made me think a couple things: 1) Bill Daley's passionate centrism might be more political than ideological, if you follow me 2) more theoretically, perhaps spending your entire life as a political insider is both a cause and a result of centrism; in other words, the cart and the horse are pulling each other, which may be as close to a mathematical proof of ideological centrism as exists.…
