Gay marriage is coming to New York State, and to celebrate, Broadway Impact and Hair plan to stage an onstage group wedding at the St. James Theatre. At a July 13 press conference, Book of Mormon star and Broadway Impact co-founder Rory O’Malley, Public Theater artistic director Oskar Eustis and Jujamcyn Theatres President Jordan Roth announced that same-sex couples from the Broadway community will be invited to get hitched onstage after the evening performance of Hair on July 25, the day after the state’s new law goes into effect. (No details were announced about who will take part in the event or who will perform the ceremony.)
