A Joliet man was sentenced to natural life in prison today in a 2001 murder for which he was convicted twice.
Will County Associate Judge Robert Livas sentenced 34-year-old Paul Quintero on Friday. The Joliet man was convicted earlier this year in the shooting death of 24-year-old Darnell Washington.
Authorities say Washington's body was found on the side of a road in November 2001. He had been shot in the face, and his car was set on fire.
Quintero was first convicted in Washington's death in 2007 and sentenced to life in prison.
An appellate court overturned that conviction, and Quintero was retried.
Quintero is already serving a 38-year sentence at Menard Correctional Center for the 2000 shooting death of Michael Ceja in Joliet.
