Man charged with attempted sexual assault in Loop dorm

A man has been charged with the attempted sexual assault of a student in the Loop back in September, police said.

Deandre Minor, 26, of the 800 block of West 78th Street, was charged this morning with attempted criminal sexual assault, aggravated battery to a police officer, trespassing and resisting police, according to police News Affairs.

A 21-year-old woman told police that Minor came into her dorm room in the 500 block of South State Street on Sept. 21 and tried to sexually assault her, police said.

The woman was able to fight Minor off and he fled.
At about 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Near North District police saw Minor trying to enter a building in the 400 block of West Goethe Street, police said.

The officers did not believe Minor lived in that area and approached him. Minor ran off but he was caught and taken into custody when he became combative, police said.

Police ran a check on Minor and found he was wanted for criminal sexual assault by Belmont Area detectives, the police release said.

The victim identified Minor and he was charged, the release said. He is to appear in bond court today.
