Dan Aykroyd Thinks John Belushi Would Have Been a 'Top' Broadway Director

Would late comic genius John Belushi have had a career on Broadway? His friend and fellow original Saturday Night Live cast member Dan Aykroyd believes so.

"He would be probably one of the top Broadway directors," Aykroyd told the Associated Press. "That's the caliber of work he'd be doing. Although the rest of us would still be making buddy comedies, he would have definitely risen above all of that and gone on to do really important work."

Akroyd, who co-starred with Belushi in The Blues Brothers and 1941, believes Belushi would have made the transition to Broadway due to the way Hollywood currently operates. "I don't know today whether his spirit could take some of the abuse that you'd have to go through to be in the television, motion-picture business. John, even though he was tough, he was sensitive."

Belushi, who also appeared in films such as Animal House and All You Need is Cash, died in 1982 at the age of 33 of a drug overdose. Aykroyd is currently promoting the animated film Yogi Bear, for which he provided the voice for the title character.
