Wrong-way Cadillac suspected in I-294 crash

A Cadillac reported to be going in the wrong direction on I-294 near the Lincoln Oasis collided with a semi-trailer tractor truck Friday night, injuring the car's driver and requiring multiple southbound lanes of the highway to be closed down during the investigation, Illinois State Police said.

Police arrived on the scene near South Holland at about 9:14 p.m. The truck driver was not injured, and the driver of the Cadillac was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police were still investigating the cause of the accident late Friday night, including whether drugs or alcohol had played a role in the crash.

Police said they had received calls that the Cadillac may have been heading in the wrong direction on the highway, but had not yet confirmed the sequence of events.
