Growing opposition to Rumsfeld among New Trier grads

A growing chorus of New Trier High School alumni is demanding their alma mater reconsider giving an achievement award to former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, according to e-mails to the school obtained by the Tribune. But a New Trier official said Rumsfeld would remain among the honorees.

Rumsfeld, who graduated from New Trier in 1950, was one of 10 "outstanding alumni" selected for the school's inaugural Alumni Achievement Awards and Hall of Honor, to be given March 22.
