Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark will delay its opening night again, according to The New York Times. Citing two sources within the production, the Times says the big-budget musical will now open "sometime in February." Julie Taymor's production has been in previews at the Foxwoods Theatre since November 28 (after a delay from November 14) and was scheduled to open on January 11, 2011. A show spokesperson had no comment on the story.
The delay is reportedly designed to provide time for the creative team to stage a new ending, change dialogue, cut and insert scenes and perhaps add songs by Bono and The Edge. The composers are currently in Australia with their band, U2, which will end the current leg of its international tour on December 19 in Perth. U2 will be off the road until a February 13 concert in Johannesburg, South Africa, presumably allowing Bono and The Edge to return to New York to work on their Broadway debut tuner.
Spider-Man, Turn off the Dark features a book by Taymor and Glen Berger. Reeve Carney stars as the title webslinger alongside Jennifer Damiano as Mary-Jane Watson and Patrick Page as Norman Oswald/The Green Goblin.
